RE: The tariff classification of Liraglutide (CAS 204656-20-2) in bulk powder form, from Spain
Dear Ms. Forstenzer:
In your letter dated April 7, 2015 you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The subject product, Liraglutide, is an analog of human Glucagon-like Peptide 1 (GLP-1) which acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
The applicable subheading for the Liraglutide will be 2937.19.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes, natural or reproduced by synthesis; derivatives and structural analogues thereof, including chain modified polypeptides, used primarily as hormones: Polypeptide hormones, protein hormones and glycoprotein hormones, their derivatives and structural analogues: Other.” The rate of duty will be free.
